Paris’s Phone Call To Ryan Seacrest

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Talent, Gossip, News,

Paris HiltonEven from her lonely jail cell, knows how to work the media – and she isn’t going to let anything as inconvenient as incarceration keep her name out of the papers and her face out of the spotlight. Recently, the imprisoned hotel heiress called on the phone. Though Seacrest is best known for his role as the host of FOX’s American Idol, in this particular capacity he was working for E!.

There are few who missed scenes of crying, screaming Paris being taken back to jail after she was released by the Sheriff’s office. She isn’t doing so much screaming these days, and told Seacrest she is doing better than when she first arrived. It would be hard for her to do any worse. Paris further said that she’s going to grow from this experience and finds herself with a lot of time, away from the paparazzi and her normal life. Fan letters have been pouring into the jail, and Paris says they’ve made her think about things she never considered before. She also says she’s realized the media used to make fun of her (used to?) – and she’s sick of it, wants to use her fame in a “good way.”

Paris also said she is getting more used to the cramped quarters of her cell (which contains a bunk bed, toilet, and desk), but is still having trouble sleeping at night. The other inmates have all been very kind to her and supportive, and Paris and they talk through their cells to each other often. During her incarceration, Paris has received mountains of fan mail, which she is allowed to read ten letters at a time.  The heiress will be released from her imprisonment in just a few more days.

American Idol Searches for the Next Great Band

Fox Logo Proof that the American Idol machine just keeps chugging along… comes the announcement that they are now looking for a great band. Titled (awkwardly, I might add) The Search for the Next Great American Band, Ryan Seacrest announced last night that they’re on the hunt for any kind of band—as long as it’s great. This new show is yet another gem in the Idol universe, with other highlights including American Juniors (remember that one?) and So You Think You Can Dance. The Idol‘s songwriters contest was just a glimmer of another take on Idol greatness. No word yet on who will judge the band competition, but of course there will be plenty of auditions and I’m sure the show will highlight those who didn’t make the cut. The judges will select their top 10, and then you know the drill—the viewers vote each week and the final three acts duel to the death for a recording contract. No official date has been set yet, but producers are expecting the show to air in the fall.

What’s the Deal with Seacrest and Cowell?

Ryan Seacrest The banter between American Idol’s host and the show’s harshest judge has been a mainstay of the reality series – but for some fans, the cracks made between Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell might be a little too much. From cutting each other off to making innuendos about the other’s sexuality, the two of them always seem right at the edge of jumping down each other’s throats. Some fans find it confusing – do they like each other or not? – while others just find it obnoxious – why can’t they give it a rest? What is the deal with Seacrest and Cowell? Are they the bitter rivals that they seem…or is it all smoke and mirrors, affectations for our viewing pleasure?

Ellen DeGeneres Steals Ryan Seacrest’s Thunder

Ellen DeGeneres With American Idol‘s big Wednesday event, “Idol Gives Back,” you’d think that Ryan Seacrest would be in top hosting form. Turns out, Ellen DeGeneres will be hosting the high-profile gig from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Check in on Wednesday night from 8:00 - 10:00 to see such big names as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Hugh Grant, Jack Black, and more. And of course, all of this is a big telethon to raise funds for the poverty-stricken in Africa and America. Gotta hand it to Idol, this could really rake in some big money. The “Idol Gives Back” performance show is on Tuesday, with the final six duking it out in a “life anthem” theme. When vieweres vote, corporate sponsors will donate money on voters’ behalf. Never fear, Seacrest will be taking care of things from the usual location, with DeGeneres holding down the fort at the Disney Concert Hall.

Simon Cowell’s Controversial Eye Rolling

Simon Cowell I guess I must have missed it during American Idol last night, but Simon Cowell rolled his eyes during the critique of Chris Richardson. Nothing unusual there, however, it happened right after Chris sent out a prayer to Virginia Tech. This morning, the Internet was buzzing with Cowell’s inappropriate behavior. In his defense, Simon said he was responding to the comment that Richardson said about singing nasal-y. He was discussing it with Paula and rolling his eyes, but the camera caught Simon in mid-eye roll when Richardson mentioned Virginia Tech. It begs the question: is Simon Cowell really that cold-hearted of a person? On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, Seacrest said, “We’ve got to clear this up. There are these people on the Internet trying to make something of this story, and let’s just be honest, no human being would be that disrespectful to anybody involved in that awful tragedy.” Cowell responded, “No, of course not… The truth was that I had switched off at that point. I was ... saying to Paula, ‘What does he mean he was singing nasal-y on purpose?’ I didn’t understand what he was saying.” I’m willing to give Simon the benefit here—while he plays a meanie on TV, I don’t think he is that hard hearted.

American Idol: Season 6 Finals - Week Five

Jennifer LopezGuess who I am:  I only have one Spanish-language album to my credit, yet American Idol has already deemed me a Latin-music afficionado.  If you guessed JLo—I mean Jennifer Lopez—then you’d be right.

Well - no matter how well she may/may not sing…we all know that Jennifer can dance and put on a show.  Was she able to help infuse a little rhythm and spice into the contestants’ performances?  Read on!

Sanjaya: The Tic-Tac-Toe Playing Pig

Sanjaya MalakarI’m starting this article before the foregone conclusion that will happen during tonight’s American Idol results show, that is: Sanjaya isn’t going anywhere.  By the time you read this, you and several million other viewers will be annoyed, whoever leaves instead of Sanjaya will be angry, but do you know who’s going to be the most pissed that Sanjaya is sticking around?  Four people: Randy, Paula, Simon and Ryan.

I’ve been watching Idol off and on since its inception, and there’s always been one constant (well, two if you count Paula’s “your voice is like a rainbow” comments): no matter who the contestant is, no matter how bad he or she is on the show, Ryan and Paula always supported each and every one of those kids.  The Jasmine Triases, the Kevin Covaises, the John Stevenses (not the Supreme Court Justice, the pseudo-crooner), even though they stunk up the joint week after week, Ryan and Paula, the two cheeriest elves on reality tv, were always there to support the kids.

But not anymore.

Idol Extends Results Shows

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Reality, FOX, American Idol,

American Idol Ugh. Just when I was beginning to enjoy the rapid pace of the half hour American Idol results shows, they’ve gone and changed things up. Beginning April 11th, the Wednesday shows will run an hour and continue that way through May. Now, wouldn’t you think that as the pool of contestants gets smaller, the need for an hour-long show is less necessary too? Ah, no one knows needless filler like American Idol—more dramatic Seacrest pauses, more Ryan/Simon insults, more cheesy group performances. The change apparently comes at the producers’ request, since the eliminated contestants haven’t had enough time to give their final performances. Again though, as the final numbers dwindle, there should be more than enough time to get in that last song.
